Q and A with Seth Sternberg, CEO/CTO, Bullfinch Earth
Bullfinch Earth was selected by its peers to receive the $15,000 final award in the 2025 Forest Business Accelerator.
Q: Tell us about your company – what inspired you to start it, and what problem are you solving?
A: We set out to provide the data humanity needs to protect and restore Nature. We’re starting in Forestry, where Forest Managers don’t have a viable way to get inventory data as scale. Current technological solutions are expensive, incomplete, and difficult to integrate into existing workflows, leaving foresters to use tools and methods from the 19th century.
Q: What’s unique about your product or service, and how does it contribute to forest industry innovation or sustainability in Vermont and the Region?
A: Our one-button wearable sensor platform is 10x cheaper, 10x faster, and collects 10x more data than traditional methods, staying out of your way while making you more effective. The additional insights gained from our data makes silviculture more sustainable and economically efficient.
Q: What stage is your business at, and what milestones are you most proud of so far?
A: We’re a pre-seed business with a field-tested prototype product. In just the past two months we’ve secured our first revenue, our first funding, and conducted three site visits with design partners.
Q: How has participating in the Forest Business Accelerator impacted your company or your thinking as a founder?
A: The Forest Business Accelerator has been a huge help to us. The curriculum forced us to think rigorously about critical parts of our business sooner and trained us to communicate key concepts clearly and succinctly. The mentors gave us the data we needed to move forward confidently, and led us to several potential customers!
Q: What excites you most about the future of your company and the industry?
A: What excites me most is the enthusiasm our customers show. They love what they do, and the opportunity to help them do it better and more sustainably really energizes me.
